Shane Cook

June 21, 1961 — April 1, 2024

Shane Dwen Cook, age 62, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024, surrounded by family at his home in Payson, Utah. Shane was born June 21, 1961, in Richfield, Utah to Norris Mott and Claudia Springer Cook.

Shane spent his childhood years in Payson and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s and snowmobiles and spending time with family. He graduated from Payson High School with the class of 1979. He later attended Utah Valley Technical College and received an Associate’s Degree as an Automotive Techician.

Shane married Katherine L. Van Ausdal on May 20, 1983 in Santaquin, Utah. Together they have four children.

He had many hobbies and liked to figure out how things worked. He loved big steam trains, mechanical clocks and collecting firearms. But what was most important in Shane’s life was his family. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. He loved being outdoors and spending time with Kathy, his kids and grandkids. He was always to the rescue when anyone was in need. Help from Shane was a mere phone call away. He will be missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Shane is survived by his wife, Kathy Cook of Payson; children: Jerad S. Cook of Santaquin, Kimberlee A. (Corey) Peterson of Eagle Mountain, Katelyn L. (Jalen) Watters of Santaquin, eight grandchildren; mother: Claudia S. Cook of Nephi; father in law: Bud L. Van Ausdal of Santaquin; brothers-in-law: Darin (Kim) Van Ausdal of American Fork, Curtis J. (Deena) Van Ausdal of Highland; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his son, Daniel J. Cook; father: Norris M. Cook; and mother-in-law: Vicki Van Ausdal.
