Lyman, Utah - Seth Sperry Chappell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, teacher, farmer, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on September 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a battle with colon cancer. He was 92 years old. Seth was born on May 29, 1934, in Lyman, Utah, to Alvin Sperry Chappell and Lydia Okerlund Chappell.

Seth proudly served his country in the United States Army and later served his fellow veterans and community through the American Legion. He had a deep love for his country. He attended Wayne High School, Snow College, and Utah State University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Texas-Louisiana Mission. Following his mission, Seth met Ardeen Davenport, the love of his life. They were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 28, 1958. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Seth worked as a schoolteacher and farmer. He loved working his farm and raising sheep. He also enjoyed fishing, riding his horse, singing, and calling square dances.

Seth was known for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and his unforgettable “Seth-isms.” Those who knew him well will know exactly what that means. He was a man of faith with a great love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. He served in many callings at both the ward and stake levels. Later in life, he and Ardeen continued serving together in the temple and on missions. Above all, Seth loved his family. He and Ardeen were blessed with four children: Roger Chappell (Effie), Pam Perry (Steve), Lori Syme (Rick), and Scott Chappell (Cassie). They have 22 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Seth is survived by his wife, Ardeen; his children and their spouses; his grandchildren; his great-grandchildren; and his brother, Rulon Chappell of St. Paul, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Sperry Chappell and Lydia Okerlund Chappell; his brother, Todd Chappell; and his sisters, Elsie Bagley, Helen Taylor, and Kathleen Larsen.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 NOON on September 12, 2026 at the Lyman LDS Ward Chapel where a viewing will held from 10:00 - 11:30 A.M. prior to services.

Burial with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and Utah Honor Guard will be in the Lyman Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina.
