Central Valley, Utah - Robert Edwin “Ed” Oldroyd, age 80, passed away on September 2, 2026 in Monroe, Utah. Ed grew up in Loa, Utah, the oldest of five children born to Kay and Shirley Oldroyd. His younger brother, McNeil, died at birth. Ed was then blessed with three sisters; Lyn, Mary and Kris. 

He worked hard as a young man, helping with livestock on the family farm, but found his true passion in fixing things. Ed discovered he liked speed and horsepower, and when he couldn't make the tractor go fast enough, he fell in love with cars. He started building race cars, got into drag racing and had the most pristine, beautiful cars far and wide. People still talk about his '55 Bel Air. Rather than playing sports, he chose to spend his extra time at the auto shop learning to build fast motors. He loved competition and being outdoors, but mostly he loved the people he did it with. Some of his favorite people were the youth, and he volunteered countless hours with the Boy Scouts, many of whom will remember their 50 mile hikes together. (How many miles he must have hiked!) Ed's love for racing crossed over into motorcycles, and then outdoor exploring, camping and hunting, which he also excelled at and was passionate about. You wouldn't believe how he could sharpen a knife – proven by the bald spot on his left forearm from checking if his knives were sharp enough! He always had a camera and took many, many pictures (slides) of nature and of his family.

Ed's biggest win was getting to know Fran, the woman he would be fortunate enough to spend the rest of his life with. Fran and Ed attended college at SUSC in Cedar City and were married in the LDS St. George Temple March 7, 1969. Around this time Ed started working for the phone company, where he stayed until his retirement 38 years later. Ed and Fran had five children, Kelly, Doni, Mark, Allen and Mitchell, who were raised in a happy home in “Little Green Valley,” Monroe. The kids had a good role model and a name to be proud of in their dad, who was well respected and widely known for having high standards and being a wealth of knowledge. You would be hard-pressed to find someone who did not look up to and admire Ed. He lived a long life.

Ed is survived by his wife, Frances Lester; children, Kelly (Kimberly) Oldroyd, Doni Kay (Oldroyd) Bailey, Mark (Christie) Oldroyd, Allen Oldroyd, Mitchell (Shaleece) Oldroyd; many grandchildren; and sisters Mary (Jan) Ellett and Kristine (Jay) Booth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Kay Oldroyd, Shirley Taylor Oldroyd; and his sister Lynnette (Michael) Milne.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Monroe Canyon Assisted Living Center and to Zions Way for caring for Ed in his final days.

Funeral Services for Ed will held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 12, 2026 in the Monroe LDS 1st Ward Chapel, 49 East 200 North in Monroe, with viewings being held from 6-8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 11th in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, and from 9-10:30 A.M. at the Monroe LDS 1st Ward Chapel the morning of the services.

Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
