Rick Allen

August 4, 1954 — April 5, 2024

Richard Brent Allen, 69, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 5, 2024, in Richfield, Utah. He was born on August 4, 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Russell and Pearl Elaine Allen. He was the seventh of ten children, three of whom survive to this day (Linda Ray Spencer, Michael Scott Allen and Darin Lee Allen).

Rick is a 1972 graduate of Granite High School in Salt Lake City. In 1975 he took classes at Utah Technical College, majoring in real estate and business/commerce. From 1986-1996 he took various courses while employed with the Department of Defense.

Rick’s employment history is diverse. He has worked for National Semiconductor, Hatfield Wire and Cable, SMART Shuttle Service, the Department of Defense in Denver, Colorado (1986-1996), and Idaho supreme Potatoes in Idaho Falls, Idaho (1997-2001). He was employed as a Greenhouse operator at Jennie’s Greenhouse and as an attendant at gas stations in Scipio and Sanpete, Utah.

Rick placed his trust in Jesus Christ’s death as payment for his sins. Rick believed that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, granting him newness of life. Rick believed his salvation was not the result of any goodness he displayed, but solely Jesus’ grace in his life. As a result, it was the grace of God that motivated Rick to live and serve Jesus till the day he passed away.

Rick was a member of New Hope Community Church (Richfield, Utah) and served in a leadership capacity. He viewed his position of leadership as one of serving others. When there was a need, Rick was there to assist. He taught children as needed, he faithfully served as janitor for over eight years, he was a florist, a seamstress, a landscaper, and a carpenter. But perhaps he will be known the most for his culinary skills.

When the pandemic arrived in 2020, the church stayed open for those who chose to worship in person. The church supported local restaurants by purchasing and bringing into church subs, pizza and other various meals to enjoy so we could fellowship together. When individuals began to return, it was decided to keep the after-church food fellowship. Rick was asked to provide snacks for all. But with Rick, he joyfully prepared complete, gourmet meals for everyone who attended each Sunday. Many felt that if Rick opened his own café, it would be an immediate success.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, at New Hope Community Church, 392 North Highway 118 in Richfield, at 11:00 AM. All are invited. Refreshments will follow.
