Later in life, he and Ethel ran their own business, South Valley Trailer Sales, selling horse trailers and western tack. Upon retirement, you could always find him in his shop restoring antique tractors or helping a friend with any mechanical problem they had. He enjoyed any opportunity he had to hunt deer and elk. He spent countless days at the racetrack watching his champion racehorses run. He loved visiting with his family, friends and neighbors, and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Ray was a proud Veteran, serving in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Arena. He worked on a floating dry-dock as an electrician, repairing battleships, submarines and other vessels. He conducted shore-patrol along the Panama Canal during the war as well. One of his greatest adventures was returning to Panama for his 90th birthday for a tour of the areas he protected during the war. He had the pleasure of traveling to Washington D.C. for a veteran's Honor Flight to visit the WWII Memorial, among others, and was able to meet several other veterans that were part of the "Greatest Generation"
