Saint George, Utah – Phyllis Swan Larsen Heaton passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at her home in Washington, surrounded by loved ones. She was born June 8, 1922 in Salt Lake City, Utah a daughter of John Sorensen and Janet Innes Swan Larsen and was the only sister to three brothers – Lowell, Homer and Richard Larsen. She met and married James Peter Heaton February 26, 1944 in Bicknell, Utah and were later sealed on September 6, 1963 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They had five children – Danny (Virginia, Amalia) Heaton, Diann (Warren) Rogers, Paula (Jack) Randolph, Becky (Joe) Peterson, and Roger (Shawn) Heaton. Jim preceded her in death March 11, 1998. She was a stalwart member of the LDS Church and a devoted Jazz fan. A pillar of strength, she never met a person who wasn’t her friend, and she never gave up on her friends. A somewhat blunt and bossy person, she maintained a “honey-do” list for everyone, frequently admonished us about the evils of smoking, and insisted that we all join her in spring cleaning. She worked at a bakery, as secretary for the City of Monticello, and operated a Montgomery Wards store. Cheerfully bearing the pain of decades of arthritis, she canned fruits and vegetables from her yard, refinished old furniture, made her own soap, and orchestrated the largest Thanksgiving dinners ever seen. Phyllis is survived by her children; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers: Richard and Connie Larsen of Bicknell; and Homer Larsen of Salt Lake City. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Robert Dan Heaton; two granddaughters, Amberly Kay Rogers and Patricia Lynn Rogers; a brother, Lowell (Gatha) Larsen; and a sister-in-law: Myrna B. Larsen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Thurber LDS Ward where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 11:30 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Bicknell Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
