Torrey, Utah - Mary Jennie Bullard Curtis, who went by Jennie, passed away on August 31, 2026 at the age of 94. She was born January 29, 1932, in Torrey, Utah, to Levi and Golda “Billie” Taft Bullard. She grew up in Wayne County on the family ranches near Torrey and Boulder Mountain, where she learned the value of hard work and developed a lifelong love of horses, fishing, and the outdoors.

Jennie graduated from Wayne County High School in 1950 and later married her high school sweetheart, Deloyd Curtis, on January 1, 1954. Together they raised three daughters, Connie, Peggy, and Mary Dee, and spent their lives working side by side. They farmed, raised cattle and sheep, worked construction, operated a sawmill, and built homes. Jennie also milked cows, bottle-fed lambs, raised gardens, preserved food, cooked for miners and at Capitol Reef Lodge, and drove a school bus for many years.

Jennie and Deloyd enjoyed camping, fishing, and traveling, including a memorable summer trip to Alaska and winters in Quartzsite, Arizona. Later in life, Jennie discovered a talent and passion for painting. Her work earned numerous awards and ribbons, including People’s Choice, and was displayed and sold throughout the area. She also enjoyed woodworking and creating decorations for her home and yard.

Above all, Jennie cherished her family. She cared for her mother in her final years and was deeply grateful for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In her own life history, she expressed her love for them simply: “I love them all.”

Jennie will be remembered for her strength, independence, creativity, hard work, and devotion to family. She lived a full and meaningful life in the beautiful country of southern Utah and leaves behind cherished memories for all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by daughters Connie Chappell (Leon, deceased), Mary (Brent) Jacobsen, and Peggy (Sherm) Miller; sister Cora Mae Taylor; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Deloyd; son-in-law Leon Chappell; and brothers Francis and John.

Funeral services for Jennie will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 18, 2026 at the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield. Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. in the Torrey Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina.
