Bicknell, Utah – On this day, April 23, 2020, an amazing man, Mark Bliss Elmer, gave up his mortal body and made his way to heaven after a valiant battle with Parkinson’s and cancer to unite with his son, parents and sister. Mark was born July 12, 1948 in Payson, a son of Bliss Sterling and Jane Beckstead Elmer. He married the love of his life, Diana Lee Stickney on September 5, 1969 in Payson. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple February 3, 1979. Due to his love for his country, Mark served in the United States Army for two years during the Vietnam War. Mark attended Utah State and U of U where he received many degrees in education. Mark accomplished many things in life, but he always said his greatest accomplishment was his four boys. Mark’s greatest love was being a husband, father and an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his family, especially his boys, hunting, camping, shed hunting and taking the grandkids fishing. He spent his life working with the youth as school teacher, coach and hunter’s safety educator and principal in Bicknell. He was active with his community through service and he honored his church callings as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He influenced and inspired the lives of many students and anyone who had the privilege of knowing him. The family would like to thank anyone who has helped them, especially Hospice, for all their love, support and compassion through this difficult time. Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Diana, of Bicknell; children: Dallas and Kristina Elmer of Fremont; Cory and Michelle Elmer of Monroe; Cole and Darci Elmer of Bicknell; daughter-in-law, Kami Elmer of Monroe; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Judy and Dub Barnes of Payson. He is preceded in death by a son, Clint Ray Elmer; his parents, Bliss and Jane Elmer; sister and brother-in-law: Barbara and Jim Butler; nephew: Joe Elmer; and a niece: Brooke Barnes. Due to the restrictions with the COVID-19, if people want to show their love and respect for Mark, they can park along the cemetery road and stand by their cars as the funeral procession passes by around 10:45 A.M. on Monday. Private family graveside services with military honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 and the Utah Honor Guard will be held in the Bicknell Cemetery on Monday, April 27, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
