AURORA — Marie Curtis Taylor, age 79, passed away peacefully January 5, 2022, in Provo, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born July 9, 1942 in Aurora, Utah, the oldest of 6 children born to Max J Curtis and Beth Marie Sorenson Curtis. She graduated from North Sevier High School in 1960. She continued her education at Southern Utah State College (SUU) and Snow College, where she participated in cheerleading and earned her associate’s degree. Marie married Roger George Taylor, September 7, 1963, in Aurora, UT. They began their married life in Cedar City, Utah. Marie lovingly supported Roger throughout their marriage. They lived in many places in Utah; including Kanab, Gunnison, Brigham City, Snowville, and Salt Lake City. Roger joined the Utah Highway Patrol and they lived in Gunnison and Price, then finally settled in Aurora, where they raised their three children: Kurt, Lorie, and Holly. They were sealed for time and all eternity on February 14, 1976, in the Manti LDS temple. Marie’s hobbies included spending time loving and serving her family, sewing, playing cards, traveling, watching sports, and chasing her husband, kids, and grandkids to their many events. She worked hard all of her life. She waitressed at the Day & Night Cafe in Salina during high school. She successfully sold tupperware, worked as a librarian, worked at Shaheen’s Best Western, delivered the newspaper route for US Today, cleaned the Salina Post office, and cooked/waitressed at the Salina Producers Livestock Auction. Marie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many wards as they moved around but the Aurora 2nd ward became her home, where she spent several years serving as the Relief Society President, and many other callings. Marie and Roger built a life completely focused on their family. Marie was an excellent cook and also enjoyed gardening. She took pride in being a loving homemaker who mended clothes, laundry, cleaned house, tended to kids, wrote letters and cards, visited with family and friends, traveled to many ball games/graduations/dance recitals, and many more events that were probably unnoticed. Her favorite places included being anywhere with her husband, her home in Aurora, Maple Grove, Fishlake, and the Manti LDS Temple. Marie loved traditions of camping at Lagoon with her family, attending family reunions, and vacationing with her husband, late brother, Jay, and Jay’s wife, Calleen. Marie’s legacy would be described as family first. She could be described as trustworthy, loyal, loving, patient, and hardworking. Everything she did was for her family. She deeply loved each person who God gave her and she showed it intentionally by calling and talking to you or leaving a sweet message, sending a card, making your favorite food, holding your hand while you spoke to her, asking about things you cared about, and always worrying about her family members. In fact, her final act on Earth was getting Christmas presents ready for family and neighbors. A beautiful, though also tragic, way to remember who she was. She is survived by her dear husband, Roger Taylor; her children: Kurt and Tanya Taylor; Lorie and Dustin Gordon; and Holly and Jason Curtis; her sisters: Joan and Brent Coates, Dana Coates, and Calleen Curtis (Jay’s wife); as well as 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Max and Beth Curtis, and brothers, Clyde Lero Curtis, Jay M. Curtis, and Neal Coates (brother in law). Friends may visit with the family at the Aurora LDS Ward Chapel, 85 North Main Street in Aurora, Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 6 to 8 P.M. Graveside service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 in the Washington City Cemetery, Washington City, Utah under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
