Salina, Utah - LeRoy Douglas Oviatt, 76, passed away August 29, 2019 at Utah Valley Hospital after a brief battle with myelodysplastic syndrome. LeRoy was born on October 14, 1942 in Castle Dale, UT to Talmage Omer and Bertha Mae Bunderson Oviatt. He was the second of five children. LeRoy joined the United States Army on May 1, 1968. He was transferred to the Pentagon where he was secretary to General Westmoreland, until the end of the Vietnam War. LeRoy married Priscilla Ramos and together they had two daughters, Cher (Derek) Parkes and Lora (Craig) Dickinson and their children: Carli (Statler) Slade, Zachary, Cadie, and Jake. LeRoy and Priscilla divorced in 1984. LeRoy later married Judy DeCrow, helping her raise her two daughters, Kim and Tori. Together they also had a part in the lives of their two granddaughters: Nikki and Cindy and their great-granddaughter. LeRoy and Judy were also foster parents to several boys during their marriage. LeRoy moved to Salina in 2015, where he became an active part of Faith Baptist Church. LeRoy grew in his personal relationship with Christ and hardly ever missed a service, often reading aloud his own poetry during church fellowship times. LeRoy awoke early every morning in the summer to water Salina City’s flowers along Main Street and the Veteran’s Memorial. He was also a school crossing guard in Salina where he shared encouraging words and smiles with all who passed by. LeRoy was also a host at the Carl’s Junior restaurant in Salina. He welcomed travelers and locals alike, kept the floor clean and the tables free of trash. LeRoy loved writing and filled notebooks with poems and stories of people he knew and places he traveled. He was dependable, kind, and an example of Christ’s love. Faith Baptist Church in Salina will host a memorial service for LeRoy on Saturday, September 21st at 11am at the church located at 165 S 400 E in Salina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Baptist Church toward the construction of an American flag memorial on the church property in honor of LeRoy.
