Monroe, Utah - Kirk L Herbert passed away at his home in Monroe after one heck of a long ride. He was born May 2, 1940, in Aurora, Utah to Leo and Maurine Lewis, he and his brother were later adopted at a young age by Chad Herbert. Kirk grew up in Salt Lake and Salina, Utah but preferred living in Scipio with his grandparents Afton and Merle Memmott. He spent some time attending South High School in Salt Lake City and then graduating from North Sevier High School in Salina.
Dad’s life was filled with many adventures, along with his brother Val. He helped his grandpa farm and was always busy. He believed if it’s not fun, don’t do it. Anytime you asked him how he was doing he would always say “I am all right. I’m fine”. His favorite phrases were “You up for all day?” And “Burning daylight”.
Dad was quite young when he and Mom started to date, when Mom moved to California, Dad followed her. They were married May 14, 1960 in Downey, California. Dad and Mom moved back to Utah and later moved to Magna. This is where Dads career began at Mountain Fuel Supply. Dad was transferred to the Uintah Basin in 1964 as the youngest service man to ever pass the test. They made their home in Duchesne, where they raised their family. During their time in Duchesne he managed a ranch, which he enjoyed. Dad always had a good horse and a good bird dog. In 1987 Dad accepted a transfer to the Richfield area, as an Operational Foreman, where he completed his career at the age of 55 with 34 years of service. Dad then worked at a landscaping company, framing houses and he owned a insulation company, until he got cancer.
Dad was an outdoorsman, hunting and fishing were his way of life, he enjoyed many camping trips and vacations with his kids. He was the life of the party and could sing and play guitar. Some of our greatest memories is singing old country songs with him. His love for his family was his greatest success, his love for us will always be cherished.
Dad is survived by his bride of 65 years, Ann Memmott Herbert; his children Lynette (Ross) Madsen, Meadow, Utah; Dale (Lori) Herbert, Monroe, Utah; Kristy Herbert, Duchesne, Utah; Karylene (Wade) Colby, Monroe, Utah and Greg Herbert, Sigurd, Utah. 10 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and his dear brother Val Herbert. Dad considered himself the last of the Mohicans, preceded in death by his parents, grandchildren, Aspen Herbert, Tyler Madsen and Lillie Herbert as well as many life long friends and cousins.
Funeral Services for Kirk will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 17, 2026 at the Monroe 1st Ward Chapel, 49 East 200 North, Monroe.
