Richfield, Utah - It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Woolsey, our beloved grandma, mom, aunt, and friend, Joan Woolsey. Joan was born December 3, 1961, to Dewey and Remola Woolsey and passed away May 5, 2026, in Richfield, UT, with her loving children at her side. The youngest of eight, Joan graduated from Wayne High School, attended Dixie State College, and later returned to Provo College to earn business degree credits.

Joan married Ricky Russell Taylor on September 7, 1985; they later divorced. She was the devoted mother of Trista, Saige, and Dakota. Becoming a grandmother brought her the greatest joy—her grandchildren were her whole world, and she supported them at every activity, even learning to stream GameChanger to her TV so she wouldn’t miss a game.

Work defined Joan’s life: she was tireless, resourceful, and fiercely committed to providing for her family. For decades she balanced multiple jobs and long hours, taking on whatever work was needed, learning new skills, and managing household finances so her children would never go without. Her steady work ethic created stability and opportunity for her family and was a source of quiet pride for all who knew her. Despite her busy work schedule, she and her father Dewey remained a constant presence at her children’s sporting events, never missing a single game.

In her younger years Joan was active in 4‑H and the riding club and had a lifelong passion for horses and animals. She loved sewing and crocheting, filling the home with handmade warmth, and she took great pride in her yard and flowers—a talent she inherited from her mother. Later in life Joan discovered a love of travel: she loved to fly, make new friends, go on cruises, and soak up fun in the sun. Joan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints.

Joan is survived by her pride and joy: Trista and Kade Nielson, Saige and Scott Johnson, Dakota and Katie Taylor; her beloved grandchildren; and many friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandson Kayson Kent Nielson; brothers Donald and Jerry (Kathy) Woolsey; sisters Mary and Marie Woolsey; and her parents Dewey and Remola Woolsey.

The family is deeply grateful to everyone who cared for Joan over the years and to Stonehenge for their compassion during her final days.
