Jim Casto

Salina, Utah - Jim Casto, 68, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by family in Provo, Utah. Born on March 10, 1958, in Salina, Jim lived his life close to the place he called home, and he remained rooted in the community and people he loved throughout his years.

Jim was the son of Jack and Louise, and he built a life defined by steady work, loyalty, and the kind of plainspoken honesty that earned the trust of those around him. He served as Maintenance Supervisor for Salina City and later worked at Salina Processing. Whether at work or at home, Jim was someone others could count on.

Above all else, Jim was devoted to his family. He married Vonnie, and together they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and the everyday moments that become the heart of a family’s story. He was a proud father to Tanna, Cody (Bret) a cherished grandfather to Teresa (Kyle) and Tayslee (Claudia) an amazing brother to sisters Iris, Ann, and Jackie. He was proceeded in death by his parents Jack and Louise Casto, a sister Toni Lee, and by in-laws, Harold and Beth Barker. His family was the center of his world, and that devotion showed in the way he lived, worked, and cared for those around him.

Jim was generous in the truest sense of the word. He was known as someone who would give a person the shirt off his back, and he had a way of making his thoughts known without hesitation. You never had to wonder what Jim was thinking, because he would tell you. That honesty, paired with his sense of humor, made him unforgettable to the people who knew him best. He was funny, direct, and genuine, and those qualities made him especially easy to love.

He found joy in the outdoors and in the simple pleasures that came with time spent doing what he loved. Hunting with his son, granddaughters, nephews, and friends, fishing, camping with Pete, shed horn hunting, and collecting guns were among his interests, and these pastimes gave him the kind of satisfaction that comes from living in step with the land and the seasons. He also enjoyed drinking Keystone Light rolling smokes, and his weekly phone calls to sisters, nephews, and friends, small routines that were part of his everyday life and reflected his familiar, unpretentious nature.

Jim’s life was one of presence, honesty, and generosity. He left behind not only memories, but an example of how to live with an open heart and a true sense of family. His legacy will live on in the stories told about him, in the lessons he shared without fuss, and in the love of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by Vonnie, Tanna, Cody, Teresa, Tayslee, and all who carried a place for him in their hearts. Though he is gone from this world, the warmth of his life and the strength of his spirit remain with the family and community he served so well.
