Freeman R. Memmott

June 20, 1937 — June 4, 2024

Richfield, Utah – Our kind and loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Freeman Ross Memmott, age 86, of Richfield, passed away June 4, 2024, in Richfield. He was born on Father’s Day, June 20, 1937 in Scipio, a son of Alonzo Angus and Ossie Kathleen Memmott. He grew up in Scipio, where he loved to fish, hunt, ride horses, play tennis and box. Dad had very fond memories growing up in Scipio, working and helping on the farms. He had great times with his cousins and friends. He loved camping and picnics at Maple Grove. He graduated from Millard High School, Class of 1955.


He moved to southern California for about 4 years, and then moved back home to Scipio.


He married LaVona Carol Syddall March 7, 1958, in Richfield, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple March 11, 1964. She preceded him in death December 10, 2007.


Freeman started working at a young age driving farm equipment, which led him to his career as a truck driver. He hauled milk for the local dairy farmers, then when he and Mom moved to Richfield in 1967, he worked for Wycoff until 1985 when he started at Barney Trucking until he retired.


Freeman is an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many callings and positions. He enjoyed working in the scouting program, serving as ward clerk, and serving with his wife as facility services representatives.


He loved camping, fishing, hunting and going to the family property in the mountains.


Freeman enjoyed painting, woodworking, art work, dancing and music.

Mom and Dad were inseparable and loved spending time together, camping, dancing and going for rides around the area. He will be greatly missed.


Freeman is survived by his children: Julie (Jeff) Anderson of Richfield; Jeanette Ina (Lyle) Banks of Monroe; Brian Alonzo (Karen) Memmott of Gunnison; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; his siblings: Connie (Burtis) Quarnberg of Scipio; Larry (Katherine) Memmott of Tooele; sisters-in-law: Kay Messerli, Peggy (John) Dalton, Margaret (Mark) Beck, all of Idaho.


He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, LaVona Memmott; his parents; a son, Brent Freeman Memmott; and 2 great-grandchildren: Paisley Ann Anderson and Maddox Von Thompson.


Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. in the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services.


Burial will be in the Scipio City Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
