Evelyn Christensen

October 17, 1923 — April 11, 2023

Salina, Utah – Our loving and beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, Evelyn Cloward Christensen, age 99, passed away April 11, 2023, on her mother’s birthday, at her home in Salina, attended by family.

Evelyn was born in Union, Utah, at the home of her grandmother, Sarah Searle formerly Gough on October 17, 1923. She lived her early childhood years in Aurora, Utah and then her school years in Salina. After graduation from North Sevier Highs School, she married her forever husband Homer Christensen in Preston, Idaho on September 20, 1941. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple January 15, 1942. Homer was drafted into the Army Air Force, and they spent the war years in Blythe and Sacramento, California, Walla Walla, Washington and Denver, Colorado. After the war they lived in the Uintah Basin, Salina, then Clearfield, Utah, then back to Salina. Homer built their house in the 60’s and Evelyn loved and was content in her Salina home.

Evelyn had a pleasant upbeat disposition making everyone feel welcome and comfortable. She was very independent and self-reliant. She made her own soap, butter, bread and canned her own food. She loved her family dearly and was always concerned about their wellbeing. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, gardening, and camping.

Evelyn had a special fondness for our Savior and her membership in His Church. She served many callings in Primary and Relief Society positions. She loved music and church hymns. She sang in church choirs and sang in duets in Sacrament Meetings.

Mom is survived by her children: Jerry H. and Isabella Christensen of Salina; Diane (Daryl, deceased) Black of Aurora; Cathy (Ray, deceased) Hoy of Cedar City; 7 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Homer; her mother, Elta Sarah Searle and her husbands, Mark Cloward and Lowell Searle; sister, Ardonna McMillan and her husband, Jack; and a great-grandson, Teven Jerry Christensen.

Thanks to all IHC hospice staff and special thanks to Doreen Nielson and Lyndsay, who gave loving and caring attention to our dear Mother. Also, thanks to Relief Society Sisters, Lisa and Terri Robins and all others who were so caring and helpful.
