Elsinore, Utah - Elmo Procell, age 96, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, died October 6, 2011 in Richfield, Utah. He was born October 20, 1914 in Zwolle, Louisiana, a son of James and Lucia Martinez Procell. He married Oma Wooley June 10, 1938 in Escalante, Utah. They were later divorced. He was a member of the LDS Church. Elmo enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years. He loved gardening, growing fruits and vegetables that he shared with his friends and neighbors. He grew beautiful flowers and had a lovely garden. Elmo hiked all through Southern Utah, gathering rocks and plants. He is survived by his daughter, Rosalie Leavitt of Pacifica, California; two granddaughters: Tralave Procell of Elsinore, Utah; and Chaning Leavitt of Pacifica, California; two great-grandsons: Tristen and Zachary Vigil, both of Pacifica, California; also 10 siblings who live in Louisiana and Texas. “A Friend Worth Having” by Juliesure Westwood He was born on a moving train between cities in Louisiana. Maybe the sound of that first train whistle encouraged his life long love of travel. Born too late to be an astronaut, he was intrigued with the space program, and followed it avidly. Imagination carrying him up, up and back to earth again. He loved life and the world around him and was interested in everything. Coming to Utah with the President and CC Camp in his early twenties to Escalante. He met the future mother of his children there and worked many years for the Postal Service. He settled down in “color country”, South Central Utah spending the last twenty plus years of his life in quiet Elsinore. He loved the mountains, hiking, camping and nature. His treasures were simple things: colorful rocks, growing a garden and sharing it with friends, and giving small gifts to neighbors and their children. Sometimes harsh with his loved ones, due to his fear and vulnerability and fear of losing them. He loved very deeply but quietly, though he had trouble expressing it in words. Yet seeing him working with his daughter in the yard, side by side, gardening. Watching him give hand-framed pictures to friends, His tentative smile was a vivid witness to his deep caring. He was proud of his Native American and Hispanic Heritage Collected Indian artifacts and read all stories he could find. He was also a true American Patriot, thankful always for his beloved county. Last, but definitely not least, all who knew him agree, he was a friend worth having. Someone who could be counted on if there was work to be done, A spontaneous and capable volunteer in times of trouble. Your friends are already missing you, Dear Friend, but we take comfort in knowing that now, freed from earthly restraints, you are soaring with the eagles you so loved. At his request, his remains have been cremated and a family memorial service will be held at a later date. Funeral Directors: Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
