Salina, Utah - Edward Dennis Calton, age 76, passed away at his home in Salina on April 19, 2018, surrounded by loved ones, after a tough diagnosis and battle with an inoperable brain tumor. Ed was born May 6, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a son of Legrand Edward and Nina Ruth Jacobson Calton, but lived much of his school years near Portland, Oregon and graduated from Clackamas High School. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for 6 years, during which time he met and married his Navy Wave wife, Phyllis Ann White of Kimberly, West Virginia on January 26, 1962 in San Francisco, California, after having proposed on the very first night they met and giving her the ring on the next day. Ed was a member of the LDS Church and a USMC Veteran. He held many positions of employment over the years, but seemed to find a home with the telephone company where he retired after 30 years of service. A truly remarkable and generous man who enjoyed sharing his knowledge on many subjects, taught others often. Having a real passion for nature and photography, he often had a camera at the ready. Willing to lend a helping hand in his community, he became a member of the Salina Lions Club. Ed is the beloved "Husband" to his wife and Sweetheart, Phyllis of Salina; beloved "Pop/Dad" to his children: Patrick and Virginia "Gini" Calton of Sandy; Wendy Collins of Ephraim; James "Jim" and Annette Calton of Salina; Darla Michelle and Fred Folkner of Ephraim; Beloved "Grandpa" to 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents: Legrand Edward Calton and Nina Ruth Jacobson Vinzant; a daughter, Ruth Ann Calton and a great-granddaughter, Gwenivere Collins. The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the Gunnison Hospital Hospice Care Team for the weeks and months of care and concern, as well as to Roberta Folkner, who tirelessly served and supported Ed and Phyllis. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 12 Noon in the Salina Creek LDS Ward Chapel, 87 South 100 East in Salina. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 10:00 to 11:30 prior to the services.
