He was born on August 14, 1927 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Yme John and Ruby Rosella Benson Steiger. He was the second of two children. His mother died when he was three years old and he was raised by Ezel and Ormus Stephenson in Holden, Utah. He attended Millard High School. He married Marilyn Martin on January 17, 1952 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Together they raised five children. Stig was a very hard worker. He was a police officer for Salina City in the 1960’s. He purchased his own truck and drove for FB Trucklines. Because of his safety record he was chosen to haul the Apollo 11 spaceship and moon rock through several western states. In the early 70’s he built and operated Stig’s Western Rancher Club. He loved to grow a beautiful garden and share his apple crop every October. He loved to hunt, fish, and snowmobile. Snowmobiling was his passion. He would snowmobile every week throughout the winter until he was in his 80’s. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. Stig was a good husband, father, and grandfather and instilled a strong work ethic in his children. He looked forward to his birthday party every August at Maple Grove, Utah.
