Doris Cox

January 6, 1936 — October 20, 2024

Manti, Utah - Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Doris Emma Hansen Cox passed away on October 20, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Doris was born January 6, 1936, to Lorenzo (Ren) Hansen and Martha Andersen in Mayfield, Utah. Doris graduated from Manti High School in 1954.

She loved playing the trumpet, accompanied by her mother, and playing in the bands for dances and other occasions. She graduated from BYU in 1958 with a degree in Elementary Education. She waited for her high school sweetheart Merrill Cox as he served a two-year mission. Doris and Merrill were married on June 6, 1958 in the Manti Temple. She spent her life raising a family of eight children, teaching school, and serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She enjoyed serving as Relief Society President and working with the sisters in her ward. She especially loved serving with the young women of her ward but her greatest love was serving and helping her family! She was an amazing homemaker, seamstress, teacher, mentor, and friend.

Doris loved Merrill and was by his side as they raised their family. They were married for 66 years; faithfully serving four full-time missions together! She took great pride in her home, her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed time on family activities including Lake Powel trips, camping trips, service and humanitarian trips, and other family vacations.

Doris is survived by her eight children: Wayne (Linda) Cox, Brad Cox, Sheree (John) Bjerregaard, Creig (Trudy) Cox, Jann (Jay) Yardley, Roger (Erin) Cox, Carl (Sandra) Cox, Julie (Joel) Mann, and a foster child, Colleen George-Bow. 36 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband; Merrill L Cox; her parents; Ren and Martha Hansen; a brother Lorenzo Ray Hansen; a sister Faye Minnie Hansen; and grandsons: Jeremy Cox and Eric Yardley.
