Walnut Creek, CA - David Kenneth Caldwell, age 53, passed away on April 5, 2021 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, CA. He was born the son of Morris and Kathryn Caldwell on December 28, 1967 in Gunnison. He was the youngest of 2 children and grew up in “Crowleyville” (Centerfield), UT on the family farm. He graduated from Gunnison Valley High School in 1986, where he was active in Speech and Drama, FFA, and Student Council. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved his time serving on his mission in the Nagoya, Japan Mission from 1987-1989. He excelled in the Japanese language and grew to love the Japanese culture and people. One thing he loved the most about the church was the hymns. He attended BYU and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor’s of Art, with a Major in Japanese and a Minor in Asian Studies. He went to work as a tour guide for Japanese tourists at the Grand Canyon. He later went to work for Morris Air, which eventually became Southwest Airlines. He was a flight attendant for over 20 years. He loved working for the airlines and made many friends on the job. He was known as a hard worker with a sense of humor. David loved to travel and was proud of the fact that he had been to 49 of the 50 states. He loved to travel for work but also with his family. A favorite family trip was to Europe in 2008. He appreciated learning about the cultures of many places. Some of his interests included: motorcycle riding, studying astronomy, going up in the mountains, reading, going for long drives, music and dancing, and especially loved when he could find someone to go get sushi with! He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Caldwell of Pleasant Grove, Brother: Danny (Kris) of Pleasant Grove, Nephew: Cooper, Niece: Chanelle, Great Niece: Myah, along with many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Caldwell. David’s family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at John Muir Hospital for their kindness, professionalism, and the peace and comfort they provided during his last few days there. Graveside funeral services will be held at the Gunnison City Cemetery, Saturday, April 24, 2021 at 12:00 P.M. Burial will be under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
