Darwin Antone Brown

Richfield/Loa, Utah - With deep love, we share the passing of our devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Darwin Antone Brown, age 73, who passed away on August 9, 2026. Darwin was born on January 20, 1952, in Salina, Utah, to Freeman Antone "Tony" and Ethel May Hopkins Brown. His life was rooted in family, patriotism, hard work, and, most of all, a good laugh.

Darwin’s childhood was full of mischievous adventures, from blowing up eggs to being shot by his brother. He and his three brothers never left a dull moment for their mom!

Darwin graduated from Wayne High School in 1971 and married Gay Pace when they eloped to the Heart of Reno Chapel in 1973. They were later sealed in 1989 in the Manti, Utah Temple and were married for 53 years. Their life together was blessed with two amazing sons, Skip and Jody. Darwin was very proud of his sons and all of their accomplishments.

Darwin spent many years working in construction before discovering his true passion, driving truck. He loved all kinds of trucks and made a career out of driving semis and hauling all kinds of loads. Many knew him by his nickname, “Punjab,” a name that became a familiar part of who he was.

Darwin loved being outdoors and making memories with his family. Some of his favorite times were spent camping and riding four wheelers. He was also famous for his dutch oven potatoes. Whether he was on the mountain, at work, or just at home, his signature look was always a pearl snap shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a trucker hat to top it off.

He took great pride in caring for his things, especially his trucks. He loved washing his truck and making sure everything he owned was well maintained and taken care of. His favorite was his 1972 Chevy truck, which he affectionately called “Tarvel.” That same pride and work ethic was something he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Darwin had a wonderful sense of humor and was always ready to make someone laugh. He was a true jokester and could often be found pulling a goofy face just to get a smile out of someone. His ability to bring laughter into a room was one of the many things that made him so special.

His mornings often included one of his favorite traditions, stopping by the café in Loa. He never wanted to miss his morning chats with the boys where he could catch up on the latest and greatest news around town. Those conversations and friendships were an important part of his daily life.

Darwin was deeply patriotic and took great pride in honoring those who had served their country. He carried on his parents’ tradition of putting up American flags over Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and fair week at the Loa Civic Center, representing each deceased service member who had roots in Wayne County. He was proud to raise the American flag at the Loa courthouse, church, fire station, and cemetery. When a flag became tattered or torn, Darwin was quick to replace it and make sure it was properly cared for. He taught his children and grandchildren the same respect for the flag and for those who had sacrificed in service to their country. He was a proud member of the Wayne County Search and Rescue for over twenty years.

Above all, Darwin loved his family. He leaves behind his wife, Gay, and his two sons, Skip and Jody (Jill) Brown. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Dalton, Toni, Baxter, Addyson, Camryn, and Jaynee, as well as many other family members and friends who will miss his laughter, stories, and humor.

Darwin leaves behind a legacy of hard work, patriotism, family traditions, and laughter. His memory will live on through the family he loved, the traditions he carried on, and the many people whose lives he touched. He will always be deeply loved and greatly missed.

Funeral services for Darwin will be held Monday, August 17, 2026 at 12:00 NOON at the Loa LDS Stake Center. Viewings will be held Sunday, August 16th, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Springer Turner Funeral Home Chapel, 260 North 400 West in Richfield, and Monday morning 10:00-11:30 AM at the Stake Center.

Burial will be in the Loa Cemetery under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina.
