Charles Herbert Davis

Monroe, Utah - Charles Davis, age 80, a devoted Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Brother-in-law, and Uncle, went to be with our Lord and Savior after long term illnesses on August 10, 2025.

Charles was born in Neely, Mississippi on November 4, 1944 to James Byron Davis and Gladys Esther Davis. He moved to Northern California when he was a young child and lived in the small town of Manila where he grew up and met the love of his life, Peggy Tate. He was educated at Arcata High School, and later worked at a lumber sawmill, and then as a sanitation worker at Arcata Garbage Company, also working in landscaping and farm work for Wes Green Sr. and Wes Green Jr. in Arcata, California.

Charles and Peggy were married on July 18, 1964 and welcomed their first child, Melissa Lynn Davis on December 3, 1969. They welcomed their second child, Byron Davis on April 11, 1972.

Charles loved to do woodworking, and many people did not know that Charles was an artist. He could draw just about anything. He loved camping, fishing, bowling and playing pool. He was a dedicated fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the San Francisco Giants.

Charles and Peggy lived in Arcata, CA from 1964 to 2004, then they moved to McKinleyville, CA where they lived until they moved to Monroe in 2007. While living in Arcata, Charles had great fun and enjoyed going to the V&N Burger Bar, where he would meet friends for coffee and donuts.

Charles was a devoted Christian. He accepted the Lord in 1974 and later became a member of the Arcata Church of the Nazarene. He had a servant’s heart and did a lot of service work in the church, including: usher, groundskeeping, distributing sacraments, playing characters in seasonal plays, and drove the Sunday School van, picking up children all over Arcata for church. He would take the youth and teen groups camping, on outings, and even to amusement parks. During his fellowship at Arcata Church of the Nazarene he built close lifelong friendships with his church family.

After moving to Monroe, Charles and Peggy began attending the Richfield Bible Church where they felt right at home and built treasured friendships with the congregation. Charles served his church by helping keep the lawns mowed, serving communion, and being a greeter, until his health started failing. Charles would meet with friends from church, and they would go to McDonalds, Cowboy Corral, and Little Wonder for breakfast and coffee. He looked forward to that each and every time.

Charles leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Peggy Davis, daughter and son-in-law Melissa and Lonnie Collingsworth, son and daughter-in-law Byron and Loretta Davis, grandchildren: Brianna and Carson Parker, Tahlor Davis, Ryan Collingsworth, Emily Collingsworth, Cicely Fregoso, Heather and Cody Spanke, numerous great-grandchildren, sister Molly Fusi, Brother Bobby Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents James Byron Davis and Gladys Esther Davis, his sisters: Louise Herndon, Dorothy (Dot) Lewis, his brother JB Davis, and his nephews: Jamie Herndon, Jim (Buster) Davis.

We would also like to thank Zions Way Hospice for all of their support and also to his medical provider Jason Okerlund, for all the care over the years.

A celebration of life will be held for Charles at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at the Richfield Bible Church, 780 UT-118, in Central Valley.

Cremation services are under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
