Salina, Utah - Carol Jean Mickelson Jacobsen passed away peacefully at her home in Salina, Utah, on February 8, 2026, and was welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior and loved ones in heaven. Carol’s ninety years of life were a treasured gift to all who knew her.
Born on March 27, 1935, in Gunnison, Utah, to Clarence LaVern and Jeanie Johanna Kiesel Mickelson, her parents instilled in her the values of hard work, resilience, and family devotion. Carol was the third of six siblings: Don, Ray, Shirley, Robert, and Joan. Carol always found joy in the simplicities of life: enjoying family picnics, planting a garden, visiting her grandparents, going to Palisade State Park, and waiting for springtime flowers to bloom. To help contribute to the family, Carol’s first job was thinning beets at nearby farms. Carol attended the local schools in Gunnison where she made lifelong friends, as part of the Class of 1953. Carol treasured her upbringing and community, which remained with her throughout her life.
Carol married Max Sorenson Jacobsen on April 15, 1967, in Eli, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Utah Temple on August 22, 1998. Together Carol and Max raised three daughters. Her role as a mother continued throughout her entire life with endless support, sacrifice, and caring to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for being an always-available babysitter, chauffeur, and supporter of their activities. Carol never forgot a birthday and her sweet messages on birthday cards, along with a $2 bill, are cherished. Many of her great-grandchildren still have every $2 bill they have received from their Grandma Carol. Above all else, Carol loved her family.
Carol enjoyed being a custodian for the Sevier School District for 17 years. She cherished her time helping the students, faculty, and community at North Sevier High School where she retired in May of 2000. Since her retirement, Carol developed a love of crocheting and enjoyed her morning walks with dear friends in her neighborhood, walking up to three miles a day well into her late 80s. Carol was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving as a librarian and nursery leader in her church, along with spending time with her Relief Society sisters in her Salina Creek ward.
Carol is survived by her husband Max of Salina and three daughters: Jackie (Craig) Burr of Spanish Fork, Utah; Lori Carter of Orem, Utah; and Teri (Richard) Meredith of Montgomery, Texas. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and her sister Joan Mickelson of Salina, Utah.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings: Don Mickelson, Ray Mickelson, Shirley Long, and Robert Mickelson.
Carol’s family would like to thank her family physician Wade Anderson and his staff, her cardiologist Dr. Daniel Bennett, and the staff of Gunnison Valley Hospital and Gunnison Home
Health and Hospice who tended to Carol with kind, tender-care devotion during the last three years of her life.
Funeral services celebrating Carol’s life will be held at the Salina Creek Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 87 South 100 East in Salina, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. at the Springer Turner Mortuary at 150 East Main in Salina. Burial will be at the Ephraim City Cemetery at 650 North Main in Ephraim under the care of Springer Turner Funeral Homes of Richfield and Salina.
For those unable to join us in person, a live-streaming of the service will be found at springerturner.com under Carol’s obituary shortly before the funeral’s starting time.
Carol will be missed but her legacy of love and devotion to those who knew her will not be forgotten.
