Camille Smart, age 49, passed away on May 15, 2025, in Sevier County, Utah. She was born on March 7, 1976, in Elko, Nevada, to Ferrin James Rex and Esther Knighton Rex.
Camille was the sixth of seven children and is survived by her father, Ferrin; and her siblings: Michelle (Jeff) Christensen, Kevin (David) Rex, Brian (Carolina) Rex, Monet (John) Guymon, Nathan (Stephanie) Rex, and Judson (Jennifer) Rex. She is also survived by her two beloved children, Eli and Lucy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther.
Camille graduated from Richfield High School in 1994 and went on to study criminal justice at Utah Valley State College. She was married to Jonathan Smart on November 27, 1996, and together they had two children, Eli and Lucy, whom she loved deeply and carried in her heart always. Camille and Jonathan later divorced, but her love for their children remained constant and unwavering.
A gifted and creative soul, Camille had a lifelong love for crafting. She had an aesthetic sense that was nurtured and developed in both personal fashion and interior design—cosmopolitan, vogue, and beautiful. She was especially known for her handmade gifts—each one a reflection of her heart—that brought beauty, warmth, and meaning to those lucky enough to receive them. She had an infectious energy, a great love for music, and a fierce spirit.
To her family and friends, Camille was more than her talents—she was thoughtful, fun-loving, emotionally intuitive, and endlessly caring. She had a special bond with her nieces and nephews and was a joyful, engaged aunt who showed up with enthusiasm and kindness.
In the last years of her life, Camille faced profound mental health challenges. She had the love and support of her siblings and family, who stood faithfully by her side. Her journey became so difficult it was ended by suicide. While attempted several times this one was heartbreaking for us her family. We share this with tenderness and compassion, in the hope that her life encourages greater understanding, empathy, and grace for all who struggle with mental health challenges.
Camille will be remembered for her warmth, her artistic gifts, and her unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in her children and in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she now rest in peace, held in the arms of her Heavenly Father, her Savior Jesus Christ, and the loved ones who went before her especially her mother.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness or creative expressions in Camille’s memory.
