Bicknell, Utah - Thomas Brent Durfey, age 66, died September 10, 2007 at his home in Bicknell. He was born February 17, 1941 in Bicknell, Utah, a son of Rotaseal and Ethel Heaps Durfey. He married Shirley Snell, May 1, 1975 in Rexburg, Idaho. Their marriage solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple February 27, 1982. Brent was raised on the family farm in Bicknell where he learned to love the outdoors and hard work. He worked as a logger for many years, becoming known as the best skidder operator in southern Utah. Even as his ill health forced him into an early retirement, he continued to work hard in his yard and garden, always trying to get the first ripe tomato in town. Brent was especially well-known for his beautiful Christmas decorations, especially the “Y” on the roof. Over the years, he gave countless hours of service mowing and watering neighbors’ lawns and helping them with other chores. Brent was a faithful member of the LDS Church and enjoyed serving as a home teacher and in the scouting program. At the time of his death he was a member of the Bicknell Town Board, where he had served for several terms. He took great pride in the improvements he helped make to the Bicknell Town Park and the town’s Christmas decorations. He loved the town of Bicknell and was always willing and eager to work to improve it. Brent’s hobbies included camping and being in the outdoors. He loved Boulder Mountain and cowboying on the Henrys. He was a devoted fan of BYU football, being a season ticket holder for 23 years. He enjoyed family trips following the team to many games in California, Arizona, Las Vegas and most recently to Notre Dame. Brent is survived by his wife of Bicknell; children: Justin and Holly Durfey of Magna; Shirae and Chandler Cutler, Brenda and Dave Williams, Treena Withers, all of Cedar City; Dirk and Eva Durfey of Escalante; Teresa Robinsen of South Jordan; 17 grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Dewey and Ramola Woolsey of Bicknell; Calvin and Ann Durfey of St. George; Doris and Dale Thurgood of Morgan; Dawna Rae and Harry Brian of Loa.
