Richfield, Utah - Blake J. Barney, age 82, went to live with our Heavenly Father after his battle with stage 4 Liver Cancer on Saturday, June 23, 2018 in his home, in Richfield, surrounded by his family. He was born August 13, 1935 to Angus William and Millie Maybelle "Mae" Colby Barney in Richfield Utah. He was the 4th of 8 Children. He graduated from Richfield High School in 1954 and enlisted in the Navy where after 8 years of service was honorably discharged achieving the rank of Ship Serviceman-Petty Officer-2nd Class. He then went on to graduate Barber College in Salt Lake City Utah. Blake married Ada Dianne Evans December 14, 1964 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 21, 1973. Blake spent 63 years including the time cutting hair in the Navy as a Barber where his welcoming nature and jovial demeanor created lifelong friendships that he treasured. Blake also retired from Sevier School District Maintenance Department after 20 years of service. Blake was an avid outdoorsman, proof of which is the 31 inch 6 point mule deer that hung in his Barbershop for the past 42 years and the perpetual story of 3 or 5 or was it 8 foot Rainbow Trout on the Boulder Mountain. Blake enjoyed playing the guitar for the Senior Citizens for many years of his life. He was also a diehard JAZZ Fan, where he finally had the opportunity to meet his Hero and favorite JAZZ announcer, Craig Bolerjack this year. He had an uncanny sense of humor and worked hard for every dime he ever earned but never spent. This frugality earned him the nickname early on “Tightwad Tooth Fairy” because with hands on his hips, and after 3 days of leaving his first lost tooth under the pillow, Dave said, “Is the Tightwad Tooth Fairy ever going to show up”? He was a hard worker and instilled that work ethic into all of his children. Blake is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dianne Barney of Richfielde; his children: Dave (Jolaine) Barney, Richfield; Shelley (Chet) Naser, Syracuse; Stacey (Lance) Snow, Richfield; Derek Barney, Richfield; 8 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren; and his sister, Yuvon and Bert Bulkley of Salt Lake City. He is preceded in death by his father, Angus Barney; his mother, Mae Nelson and his step-father, Vernal Nelson; 6 siblings: Verlynn Barney, Kerry Barney, Wynona Barney, Donetta B. Miller, Marilyn Christensen and Madeline Gleave; and his grandson, Cody Brian Naser. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Richfield 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 675 West 200 South in Richfield.
