Richfield, Utah - Bert Hyrum Christensen, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Lehi, Utah, due to natural causes.
Bert was born at home in Moroni, Utah, on January 6, 1936, to Archibald Paul & Florence Christensen. Bert was the youngest of seven children. In fact, he was nearly ten years younger than his next-oldest sibling! Being born when his parents were older and also being so much younger than his siblings, he often felt like he was raised somewhat like an only child by grandparents. Nonetheless, his three older brothers and three older sisters all loved their baby brother Bert!
Bert was raised in Moroni, Utah. He loved sports and excelled in basketball. He was a great scorer and shooter and was known for making jump shots from what Bert called the "coffin corner". He graduated from Moroni High School, and attended Colorado State University on a basketball scholarship. Bert grew up in a home just two blocks from the home of Grace Dyches. They attended elementary and high school together. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on September 9, 1955. Grace was the love of Bert's life. He cherished her with all his heart.
He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Vocational Agriculture. He taught school in Rifle, Colorado, and Richfield, Utah. He later earned a master's degree from Northern Arizona University and finished his career as a school counselor in the Sevier School District, helping many students find their way in life.
Bert loved his family very much. He and Grace raised their family in Richfield, Utah. He supported his family members in all they did. He and Grace attended hundreds of ball games together watching their children and grandchildren. They also watched their family members in numerous pageants, plays and concerts.
Bert was a spiritual man. His greatest love and devotion were to his Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel. He served faithfully and tirelessly in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Throughout his life, he served as a young branch president, bishop, stake presidency counselor, full-time missionary in the Fiji Suva Mission, patriarch, temple ordinance worker, and as a counselor in the Manti Utah Temple Presidency.
He is survived by Grace, his sweetheart of 71 years. He is also survived by his five children: Diane (Jerry) Larsen of Richfield, Jeff (Michelle) Christensen of St. George, Brad (Barbie) Christensen of Hurricane, Kyle (Rama Jean) Christensen of Lehi, and Sheila (Richard) Barton of Noblesville, Indiana. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his six siblings, their spouses and a great-grandson.
Funeral services for Bert will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 19, 2026 at the Richfield LDS Stake Center, 159 North 400 West. Viewings will be held Sunday, October 18th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Springer Turner Funeral Home, 260 North 400 West, as well as Monday morning from 9:00-10:30 AM prior to services at the church.
