Monroe, Utah - Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, VerrDon Durfee, 83, passed away peacefully at home with his family beside him on September 29, 2022.
VerrDon was the oldest child born to Verr and Edith Durfee on December 4, 1938 in a log home not far from the home that he had lived in for the last 45 years. He was raised in Aurora, Utah and spent his childhood learning to work hard on the family farm and learning to be a cowboy. He loved riding his beloved horses whenever he had a spare minute. He roamed the mountains on his horse as a boy, hunting and enjoying the great outdoors.
He married Suzanne Christensen on September 12, 1958, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they started their family as they finished their schooling. They quickly had two little girls: Tracy and Brenda. Then they moved their family to Vernal, Utah where VerrDon got a job with the Division of Wildlife Resources. He worked for them for 37 years, first as a Game Warden, then later became the Wildlife Biologist for the state of Utah. While there, VerrDon and Suzanne added a son, Dustin, to complete their family. After many years in Vernal, they were able to fulfill their dreams by moving their family back to Sevier County to be near their families.
VerrDon loved to hunt, but his main passion was being a cowboy. He loved breaking and training horses and loved to rope. He loved spending time at the horse racetrack, and training fast horses and racing them. Later in life, he loved to team pen. He always had a fancy broke horse that he trained himself and then rode to win many events on. He was an excellent horseman.
He loved his family! He loved to go on rides in the mountains on horses with family or anyone who would go with him. He passed his love of hunting, the outdoors, and horses on to many of his posterity.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a scoutmaster in Aurora.
He was a true friend to all. He had many friends scattered across the state and country. Everyone he came in contact with became a quick and lifelong friend. He truly enjoyed visiting with his buddies in the coffeeshop.
He was a great big brother to his younger siblings. He was the oldest and was always worrying about his sisters and helping them out with anything that they needed.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne, his children, Tracy Durfee, Brenda (Ron) Cropper, and Dustin (Emily) Durfee, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brothers; Bardett (Maxine) Durfee, Rhett (Elaine) Durfee, Kim (Karen) Durfee, his sisters Vicky Durfee Barney, Monica (Max) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, baby brother Dave, and baby sister, Leslie.
