Redmond, Utah - Richard James Sorensen, Jr., passed away January 14, 2020 at his home in Redmond, Utah. He was born January 29,, 1945 in Tooele, Utah a son of Richard James Sr. and Bessie Fay Turner Sorensen. Richard served honorably in the United States Army in Germany from 1963-1966. He worked at Tooele Army Depot as a civilian for many years until his retirement. Richard was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions including bishopric, seventy quorum president, and stake missionary. Richard loved horses and he owned many. He loved taking his grandkids on horse and buggy rides. He belonged to riding clubs in all of the places that he lived and belonged to the Redmond riding club for many years. Richard loved his family above all else and spent most of his time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his mother, Faye Sorensen; sisters: Rosemary (Jim) Grantham, Darlene Draper, Jolene (John) Hoffman; Children, Sheila Sorensen, Shawn (Colette) Sorensen, Scottie Sorensen, Daniel Sorensen, Melissa Graff, Jared (Jessica) Sorensen; 20 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father Richard James Sorensen, Sr.; brothers: Michael Sorensen and Kenneth Sorensen; sister: Susan Sorensen; and grandsons: Ian Anderson and Brandon Sorensen. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Redmond 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Redmond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
