Loa, Utah - Our kind and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Oma Chesnut Chappell, age 88, died July 25, 2007 in Richfield. She was born October 26, 1918 in Escalante, Utah, a daughter of Alma and Almira Wilson Chesnut. Her mother died when Oma was four years old, and she and several of her siblings were raised in Fruita by an Aunt and Uncle. She attended school at the old School House in Fruita. Oma married Roscoe “Ross” Verl Chappell, May 14, 1940 in Lyman, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 21, 1960. Ross died March 29, 1990. Oma and Ross lived in Orem and American Fork while raising their family. After Ross retired, they moved back home to Lyman. After Ross died in 1990, Oma moved to Loa. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and she was an avid reader. She was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in all the auxiliaries. Oma is survived by her three daughters: Ramola and Evan Harding of Loa; Ethel and Frank Herrera, and Verla Chappell, all of American Fork; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 1 brother: Guy and Flora Chesnut of Springville. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Chappell; 1 grandson; 2 great-grandchildren; three brothers and one sister: Anthony Chesnut, Glen Chesnut, Richard Chesnut and Alta Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 30, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. in the Loa LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Monday morning from 11:00 to 12:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Lyman Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
