Redmond, Utah - Edward McKay Roberts, age 82, of Redmond, died May 25, 2006 in Gunnison, Utah. He was born August 26, 1923 in Annabella, Utah, a son of Ammon and Susie Emma Adams Roberts. McKay married Merle Hampton, November 9, 1944 in Salinas, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, March 5, 1945. She died September 14, 1949. He married Francis Joyce Larson, January 16, 1960 in the Manti LDS Temple. She died June 16, 1978. He married Norma Leah Kirk Trease, March 5, 1984 in Ely, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, March 4, 1989. McKay has lived in several towns in the Sevier Valley but has resided the last 22 years in Redmond. He has always been an active member of the LDS Church. He served four years in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines. He has spent most of his life as a cowboy, working with cattle. Horses are his first love and he has always had several. He enjoyed training them and trading them. He learned to shoe horses at an early age and shod several hundred horses a year until the last seven years. Many called him the “master farrier”. McKay served on the Salina City Council for 4 years, was a member of the Salina Riding Club, and was one of the few original members left. He was also a member of the Redmond American Legion Post #118. In 1998, he served as Grand Marshal of the Salina Parade and Rodeo on the 4th of July. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping, deer hunting, John Wayne movies, Louis L’Amour books, spending time with his family, singing old songs and cattle drives. For the past six years, McKay traveled with Norma, “The Real Salt Lady” selling “Real Salt” throughout the state. McKay is survived by his wife, Norma, of Redmond; children: Chuck and Carla Roberts, Heidi and Robert Bird, all of Salina; Steven and Lana Roberts of Redmond; Stacee and Brett Blackburn of Aurora; Micki and Rob Kinch of West Haven; Rhett and Stephanie Roberts, Tanalee and Jim Besendorfer, all of Heber City; step-children: Frank and Cathy Trease of Price; Rick and Judith Trease of Henderson, NV; Leah Watt of Coalville; Terry and Allison Trease of West Jordan; Leslie and Allen Wilder of Tetonia, Idaho; 54 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Elmo and Cora Roberts of Sparks, NV; Hannah Ormond of Pleasant Grove; Mary and Theone Riddle of Kanab; Raymond and Verna Roberts of Venice; Denzil and Rosemary Roberts of Lincoln, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by 1 grandson; a brother, Devan Roberts and two sisters: Marie Nay and Zola Deuel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at 12 Noon in the Redmond 2nd LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call for viewing at the Springer Turner Funeral Home in Salina, Monday evening from 7 to 9 P.M. or at the ward chapel in Redmond, Tuesday morning from10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Redmond American Legion Post #118 will be in the Salina Eastside Cemetery under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield, Salina and Gunnison, Utah.
