Luella H. Kralka

June 13, 1923 — July 18, 2016

Redmond, Utah - Our loving mother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend and example, Luella Hampton Kralka, passed away July 18, 2016 in Novato, California. Luella was born in Sevier, Utah, June 13, 1923, a daughter of Charles and Una C. Dorius Hampton. Luella was married to Leonard Kralka August 19, 1950. He preceded her in death in January, 1970. Left to raise her two beautiful children on her own, she never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future. She was also a favorite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Luella, known to her friends and family as Lu, grew up in Marysvale, Utah where she attended school before going to college in Ephraim, Utah. During World War II, Luella worked as a civilian for the U.S. Navy doing clerical work. She later worked for the railroad in San Francisco, CA. She worked for the US Postal Service in San Francisco for 25 years. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Luella made friends easily and maintained contact with many. She was an active volunteer, most notably at the Marin General Hospital in oncology and at the Marin Civic Center for 25 years. She was a devoted San Francisco Giants baseball fan and loved playing card games, Scrabble & Bingo with whomever was up to the challenge. She was also a skilled bowler in her early years and loved to go bowling with friends on a regular basis. Lu was an avid reader – of the newspaper, of biographies, books, etc. Luella enjoyed attending family reunions, class reunions, and get-togethers of any kind with friends and family. Even in her later years, she continued to correspond with friends and family in her beautiful and distinctive handwriting. Her courage and strength continues to be an example for others to follow. Luella is survived by her children, Jeannette (Dixon) Kralka McClenaghan, Fairfield, California and M. Michael Kralka, Novato, California; many nieces and nephews; and her siblings, Anna (Willis) Hales, Redmond, UT; Della Rae (Neldon) Peterson, Sandy, UT; Leila Crane, Salina, UT. Preceded in death by her siblings: Ruby Hampton, Merle Hampton Roberts, Nelda Hampton Behunin, Merrill Hampton, and Vaunda Hampton Colby; Brothers-In-law: Gerald Colby, Ronald Crane, McKay Roberts, Sister-In-Law, Faye Hampton, and nephews Craig Crane, Russell Crane, and Kevin Hampton. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30 at 1:00 pm, in the Redmond 2nd LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing from 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Remond Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
