A beautiful shining light, Jana, was born to Tommy and Vee Daun Romero on August 26, 1961, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She passed away December 14, 2022, in Richfield. Jana grew up in Las Cruces and graduated from Las Cruces High School in 1979. She later went on to get a business administration degree at New Mexico State.
She married David LaBrecque April 1, 1996. They made their home in Indiana, where they build a very successful defense contractor business together. They later divorced but stayed dear friends.
When Jana decided to retire, she moved to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. It was halfway between her family in Utah and New Mexico. She spent many years traveling to see both. She loved to travel and see the world. She was always ready for a road trip. Her favorite place to be was in Hawaii. The Big Island will be her final resting place. She was able to fulfill a lifetime dream of going to Egypt. On that trip, her boyfriend of ten years, Dan, proposed to her. When she wasn’t traveling, she enjoyed volunteering at Chimney Rock Monument. Jana also got ordained to officiate wedding ceremonies and had the honor of officiating weddings for a niece and two nephews.
Jana was the Queen of Compliments. If she gave you a compliment, you knew she meant it. She had a way of making everyone feel noticed, beautiful, and loved, even complete strangers.
Jana is survived by her beautiful daughters, Nani Romero (Miguel), Angelia Romero Hanson; her boyfriend, Dan Minear of Colorado; her siblings: Anita (Bob) Gary, Tammy (Michael) Valenzuela; George Ann (Joe) Jaramillo; Shelly Sorensen, Robin (Bill) Ables, Lavern Madina, Randy (Cathy) Rasmussen, Jerry (Nancy) Rasmussen, Steven (Brenda) Rasmussen and her four grandchildren that she adored: Mikuela, Annaleia, Lyra, Aquila Romero Saquic; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Winston.
On behalf of the family, we would like to immensely thank her sister, Anita and all her friends and the hospice care team for the loving care. They truly went above and beyond.
In lieu of flowers, please consider performing an act of kindness or giving a meaningful compliment in memory of Jana.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in both Indiana and New Mexico.
