Salina, Utah – Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Eugene Lloyd “Fred” Tidlund, age 86, passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly on February 11, 2020 in Salina. He was born November 16, 1933 in Joseph, Utah, a son of Fred and Alice Viola Myers Tidlund. He graduated from South Sevier High School, Class of 1952. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army. Gene married Sharron Madsen July 26, 1956 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were later divorced. He married DeAnne Sue Crane Westbrook May 8, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City. Gene taught school for 2 years in Las Vegas, Nevada and then moved to Salina, where he taught for 33 years at Salina Elementary School and Salina Middle School. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in 2 bishoprics, on the High Council, in the Sunday School Presidency, as Ward Mission Leader and served a Self Reliance Mission in Richfield and at the Employment Center. Gene was a member of the Salina Lion’s Club, Jaycees and the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with a great love of the outdoors. He loved RZR rides, shed hunting and camping with his family. He loved the Utah Jazz and the BYU Cougars. Gene is survived by his beloved wife, DeAnne of Salina. His children are: Tina Tidlund (Deceased); Mike (Deceased) and Karen Tidlund of Redmond; Lonnie and Kristen Tidlund of Salina; Gary (Deceased) and Sherri Westbrook of Salina; Greg Westbrook of Lehi; Natalie and Shane Barrow of Salina; Bryan and Tiffany Tidlund of Manti. He has 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Alice Tidlund; siblings: Helen and Buck Hoard; Alvin and Lorene Tidlund; as well as three children. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. in the Salina LDS Stake Center, 98 West 400 North in Salina, where friends may call for viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. or Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial with military honors accorded by the Salina American Legion Posts #36 and the Utah Honor Guard will be in the Eastside Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
