Claude R. Payne

April 27, 1956 — July 19, 2019

Venice, Utah - Our kind and beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Claude R. Payne, age 63, of Venice, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019 at his home in Venice, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born April 27, 1956 in Richfield, a son of Lionel Claude and Betha Larrain Cowley Payne. He graduated from South Sevier High School, Class of 1974. Claude married Lee Ann Newby July 2, 1978 in Monroe, Utah. She preceded him in death on December 29, 2015. He married Beverly Shea Yates July 3, 2016 in Richfield, Utah. Claude is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked for Peterson Plumbing in Richfield for many years, retiring in 2018. He enjoyed remodeling homes and fixing them up, and building cabins in the mountains around the valley. He did electrical and sound systems in many homes throughout Sevier County. Claude was a member of Bikers Against Child Abuse and a trusted member of Alcoholics Anonymous. He loved horse shoe competitions, riding on his Harley Motorcycle, fishing, camping with his family and friends. He especially loved all of his grandchildren. Claude is survived by his wife, Beverly, of Venice; his daughter, Klerisa Lynn and Toni McFarlain of Richfield; step-children: Michelle and Steve Camden of Richfield; Scott and Chelsea Mercer of Oklahoma; Sara and Kyle Maginn of Kentucky; Katie Majors of Virginia; 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; sisters: Rilla Dee and Roland Beck of Centerfield; Lael Thalman of West Jordan; Sharla LaVon and Lyman Forsythe of Sigurd; a sister-in-law: Renae and Marlin Sorensen of Venice; and his parents-in-law: Darrell and Halsey Yates of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lionel Payne, Betha Barney Payne Halladay; brothers: Douglas H. Barney and Richard H. Barney; brothers-in-law: Mitch Newby, Lynn Sorensen and Mack Thalman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. in the Venice LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Venice Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
