Redmond, Utah - It's with thankful hearts we say good-bye to our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Carolyn June Nicholson Jensen. Carolyn age 86, passed away July 23, 2017 at Mission at Community Living in Centerfield, Utah. Carolyn was born June 15, 1931 in McColl, South Carolina, a daughter of James Fredrick and Daisy Bell McCaskill Nicholson. She married a military man that came into the restaurant where she worked in McColl, SC. She knew he was the one she was going to marry the first time he came into the restaurant, Rulon Dale Jensen. Married March 15, 1954. Later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple, June 16, 1977. She left her family in SC and came 3,000 miles to an unknown territory and unknown people to start a new life with her sweetheart. Dale and Carolyn had a ranch in Axtell, Utah. This is where they had their children: Debra, Richard Chris, Sue Ann, Tammy and Cindy. They worked hard farming and Dale was also a carpenter. Dale was in a car accident in 1965 and lost his eyesight. They then moved to Redmond, Utah where they continued to raise their family. She then lost her sweetheart on April 6, 1976. Carolyn was baptized in the LDS Church while they lived in Axtell. When they lived in Redmond, she was a Primary Teacher, a Visiting Teacher and sang with the choir. She worked as a hostess for the Branding Iron Restaurant for several years, and then she got a job with Zions Bank and worked as a teller until she retired at age 65. There she met many people and loved working with them. She continued to fill in at the bank even after she retired. She worked a while after she retired for Lorraine Smith at Thyme for Herbs in Salina, Utah. Again she loved working with people and meeting the public. Even after she was elderly, she would go to Richfield almost every day just to sit in Wal-Mart and visit with people. Carolyn loved her family and took advantage of every opportunity to be with them and support them in everything they did. She was the grandkids biggest fan in everything they did. She loved to read and was often seen sitting outside her home reading and enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. She loved the simple life. She stayed in touch with her many friends in Axtell and Gunnison area for her entire life and loved each of them dearly. We would like to thank the amazing staff at Mission at Community Living in centerfield for the awesome care they gave Mom in the time she spent there. Also, thank you to the Relief Society Presidency both those at the care center and from her Redmond 2nd Ward, that visited her regularly. And a big thank you to At Home Health and Hospice. Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Debra (Mel) Yardley of Aurora; Sue Ann (Kay) Williams, Tammy (Gary) Harrison, and Cindy Johnson, all of Salina; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nell Jackson of McColl, South Carolina; and a brother, John E. Nicholson of Rockhill, South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sweetheart, Rulon Dale Jensen; her son, Richard Chris Jensen; a grandson, Jason Mel Yardley; great-grandchildren: Kaydince Humphrey, Nevaeh Bishoff and Aaron Yardley; brothers: Paul Nicholson and Richard Nicholson. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 at 12:00 In the Salina LDS Stake Center, where friends may call for viewing Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 prior to the services.
